Blackwood Homes and Care was created by Dr Margaret Blackwood in 1972, as then called Margaret Blackwood Housing Association. Dr Blackwood was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy and campaigned tirelessly for the rights of disabled people to live independently. Dr Blackwood died in 1994 but her legacy lives on through Blackwood’s continued investment in Innovation. To learn more about Blackwood, head to their website.

Peoplehood is a programme aimed at co-creating beautiful places for independent living, that offer what people need, to live healthier and happier for longer. Led by Blackwood and working with our 9 partners across industry and academia, we successfully attracted £6m grant funding from Innovate UK to develop and deliver our programme.

Peoplehood is a menu of scalable products and services physical and virtual, that combine to create a neighbourhood that supports people as they age.
