Peoplehood – Our Story So Far

Some of the team can remember when Peoplehood was just an idea, but, over the last couple of years, we’ve been able to bring this project to life thanks to the contributions of our members in each of our three neighbourhoods.

A key part of Peoplehood is our focus on designing solutions alongside our members, and we wanted to highlight just how much has been achieved over the past two years. From the early co-design workshops where we first learned what mattered to residents, right through to today, where we are seeing increased demand for our cycling sessions.

Group session What Matters to You

We hosted co-design sessions to explore attitudes and bring forward ideas on each element of our programme. From the earliest workshops we learned that:

Cardonald didn’t really benefit from many community groups in the past – local residents and stakeholders reported that they often felt Cardonald was overlooked and, as a result, missed out on investment.

In Charleston, some people voiced concerns about losing dog-walking spaces as a result of the new development

Buckie residents were keen to have increased opportunities to meet new people and get out and about.

What You Told Us

What we Did

Tenants at Helenvale told us they’d love to access outdoor spaces more to socialise, enjoy a garden space and remain active

We worked with tenants to design the garden space at the back of Helenvale and launched the garden last year which included a boccia pitch, a couple of pieces of adapted outdoor equipment and spaces where tenants could gather and socialise.

Tenants wanted their homes to include features and aids that helped them to be more self-reliant

You are keen to improve your digital skills, but don’t necessarily want to do this in a classroom setting

Tested and rolled out Click & Mix sessions which allow people to come together informally and receive help with their devices over a cuppa and/or a bite to eat

Need more opportunities to bring people together following the pandemic – Meeting people and socialising is important

We planned and hosted Summer and Christmas events to bring Peoplehood members together which were well received. We also introduced Feel Good Friday in Cardonald and Wellbeing Wednesday in Cardonald, which allows people to try out new activities in a relaxed setting. Helped support the promotion of Buckie’s Men’s Shed.

You are keen to take part in activities such as Tai Chi, Table Tennis, Cycling and Walking

We have cycle hubs set up in all 3 areas, with e-bike rental coming soon and have trained cycling volunteers in Charleston, with volunteer recruitment open in Buckie and Glasgow

Peoplehood in Numbers

To date, we’ve delivered 158 engagement sessions which have allowed people to come along and find out more about Peoplehood.

We have held 53 co-design sessions with over 250 participants which have helped to bring projects such as the Cycle Hub to life.

We’ve recruited and trained 18 volunteers who, collectively, have helped support cycling sessions, will deliver digital skills and provide much needed support to our engagement team.

We’ve distributed 252 tablets to members.

A total of six e-cars are in operation across the neighbourhoods with our Buckie cars enjoying the most usage.

123 members are also interested in volunteering or are already actively giving their time to help other organisations

Our Impact

Our external evaluation team at Hall Aitken recently produced a report that showed that Peoplehood members reported higher levels of satisfaction and lower levels of anxiety after six months of being involved with the project. The health benefits of exercise and reduced isolation
